Compulsory Purchase Order issued for The Fort Hill Hotel

CPO has been applied for on the Fort Hill Hotel opposite the Turner Contemporary Gallery site. It has been a long term bone of contention and a general blight on the seafront, Harbour Area.

  1. Excellent news! Does anyone know what they plan to do with them exactly? Personally I'd refurbish The Arcadian & demolish The Fort Hotel.

  3. the Arcadian and Fort Hotels should be refurbished and restored - obviously not as hotels.
given the horribly ugly turner centre opposite it would be a tragedy for the Old Town to lose an important group of building shielding it from the T Centre.
if i had the money I'd buy them both and make a fortunes filling them with yuppy bars and latte outlets to empty the pockets of the toffs cruising in / out of the T Centre - seems no-brainer.
BUT i guarantee T Centre is blocking this to force the punters to use their own facilities which will be 'state-style' for £loads....

  5. The Arcadian CPO has now been lifted. the outside looks great with the new balcony and canopy.

the new flats should be very good and make a big difference to the area

  6. GRAND REVIVAL OF MARGATE’S FORMER ARCADIAN HOTEL

One of Margate’s grand Victorian buildings has been restored to its former glory. Occupying probably the best view on the seafront, the former Lilley’s Hotel Arcadian on Fort Hill now stands renewed, complete with external architectural features from the period.
The Arcadian’s distinctive balcony and signage have been replicated and the attention to detail has already earned the project public commendation. In May, the Arcadian won prestigious recognition when, together with the Turner Contemporary gallery, it was nominated for a Civic Society architectural award.

  7. What a load of rubbish. The balcony in place doesn't even have planning permission. It's a poor quality design and shoddy materials. Nothing like the original. It got through under S15 as it was claimed it was structurally required by Building Regs. The windows are half Upvc, half poor quality bog standard timber design. No pride has been involved in the renovation of the facade. It's cheap as chips and bare minimum. Quite frankly a shame it was awarded anything with the word pride in it at all. It's nothing what it was or could have been. Shoddy shoddy.
