Escape to the seaside

When the Turner Contemporary gallery (turnercontemporary.org) opens in Margate on 16 April, it's set to do almost as much for the down-at-heel seaside resort as Tracey Emin has. After checking out the exhibitions, take a wind-blown stroll along the pier for a beer at the cafe at the end, then delve into the town's idiosyncratic attractions, such as the Shell Grotto (shellgrotto.co.uk) and the Mad Hatter's Tea Rooms(01843 232626). She goes into detail on the history of Hawley Square and the surrounding area gives a nice heads up to the Theatre Royal and The Indian Princess restaurant.

The Reading Rooms, boutique bed and breakfast opens in Margate

After over 6 months of intensive renovation, The Reading Rooms is now actually open for business. Three guest rooms on the top three floors of a grade II listed classic Georgian townhouse overlook Hawley Square and Margate's rooftops to the sea. The house will soon be featured on a channel 4 programme with Ruth Watson about people starting their first hotel business.
