49-50 Hawley Square - Still waiting for repairs
Over a year on from the disastrous fire and we're still waiting for something to happen to begin to repair 49-50 Hawley Square.
Why has a temporary tin roof not been erected as a minimum to stop water getting in?
Surely the owner of such a prominent listed building has a responsibility not to just leave it to rot and the authorities have the power to deal with the owner?

This is a horrendous example of lack of enforcement!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is with in the Conservation Area: So maybe MCAAG should get involved!
Wish I had the pennies to have it off the owner - would make a very grand home :D
Will try and find out some information on the history of this building too and stick it on my site.
Hi sorry to go off thread I have set up a new blog http://thanetpress.blogspot.com/ and would appreciate it if you would link to it as I have done to yours, it is to be exclusively for publishing local press releases with proper feeds.
ReplyDeleteI won’t be publishing anything that isn’t mainstream it will be TDC and the main local politicians press releases only.
Thanks, Michael, I'll add it. Very useful blog you've created there. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteComing back to 49-50 Hawley, yesterday's Thanet Gazette has enforcement officer Steve Albon stating in relation to The Arcadian: "This building is an important location and that's why the council has been taking action to ensure it is renovated. With this agreement with the owner, we hope work will start shortly."
Now does this mean the same vigour is happening with 49-50 Hawley Square to ensure further damage does not occur by exposure to the elements? The site was the Conservative Club and is in a prominent site and is a building of merit. Even if works were not started straight away, what excuse is there for not ensuring rain and frost don't get in?
